The Appeal of Track Days

For people that love their cars there's a lot of satisfaction in the day-to-day focus on good driving. But sometimes it can be great to let your hair down and push your car to its limits too. Track days are something that allows you to do just this. Many people across the UK choose to take part in organised track days. But what exactly are these events, and why are motorists interested?

A track day is an opportunity to use a safe and legal environment to test the capabilities of your car, whether in terms of speed or handling. It's often a very different driving experience when you open your car up to its full potential. Modern cars, especially ones that are built for speed, often go through the course of their lives without being let loose on an area that really shows what they can do, but that all changes once you get behind the wheel at an open track event.

The tracks are varied and there are plenty to choose between. Many of the more regular options are ex-airfields where the tarmac is perfect for some serious driving and there's a lot of space for all of the drivers. Many dedicated racetracks also open up to track days, so you could find yourself doing a famous circuit. This has the thrill of being able to experience the pro courses, and also see how your own times look compared to the professionals.

A normal day consists of you turning up early to register yourself and your vehicle, have your license checked, and then get assigned to a group. The group you're placed in depends upon your ability and experience. More experienced track users will be given markings to correspond with their higher level of ability, while novices will be put in a group that allows for a more gradual introduction to the process.

Check out where the nearest track events are to you, and pit your car against the freedom of having no limits.

You might need some new Mercedes parts online if you go on a track day.
